Inez C. Zemlicka, age 89, of Brookings, died Friday, March 28, 2003, at the United Retirement Center in Brookings, South Dakota. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, March 31, 2003, at Lake Campbell Lutheran Church. Visitations will precede services on Monday morning at the church. Inez Christine (Tschudy) Zemlicka was born November 22, 1913, on the family farm near Beresford, South Dakota, to Edward and Minnie (Viborg) Tschudy. She attended Dakota State University for a year, and taught in country schools for six years in Hand and Brookings Counties. On May 19, 1940, she married Donald Zemlicka on her familys farm in Lake County. In 1952 they moved to a farm south of Brookings. Donald died in 1984. Inez lived in Brookings from 1986 until 1998 and lived on the farm for the past five years. Inez was a member of Lake Campbell Lutheran Church was an accomplished artist, creating mostly country scenes. She wrote a book about her own life, and won a sewing machine for a cartoon she drew about mending her husbands clothes. Her favorite expression was look for the funny side of life. She was always upbeat and positive. She enjoyed art, yarn-work, story writing, and raising flowers and plants. Survivors include two sons: Jerald (Ellie) Zimlicka and Frank (Diane) Zemlicka, both of Brookings; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Larry and Leslie; a brother, Marvin Tschudy; and a sister, Anna Tschudy Beam.
