Howard D. Golden, age 84, of Brookings, passed away on February 19, 2017, at the Neighborhoods at Brookview in Brookings. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 23, at 10:30 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Brookings with burial in First Lutheran Cemetery. Visitations will be held on Wednesday, February 22nd from 5 -7 P.M. at Eidsness Funeral Home.
Howard Devere Golden was born on September 18, 1932, to Harley and Violet (Worley) Golden in Durand, Wisconsin. He attended grade school at Spring Creek Grade School, and high school at Durand High School, both in Wisconsin.
Howard grew up on a dairy farm in Buffalo County, Wisconsin, farming with his dad, and eventually taking over the family farm. On September 17, 1955, Howard was united in marriage to Dorothy Weinzirl in Durand Wisconsin. In 1963, they moved to Brookings, South Dakota and Howard continued to farm until his retirement in 1994.
Howard was a member of First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed many hobbies including: woodworking, fishing, reading, and traveling. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, and attending his grandchildren's activities.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; children, Sherrie (Brent) Bloemendaal of Zionsville, Indiana, Vickie (Bill) Fargen of Elkton, South Dakota, Robert (Julie) Golden of Woodbury, Minnesota, Michael (Shanna) Golden of Sioux Falls, and Ron (Shawn) Golden of Madison, South Dakota; grandchildren: Natalie (Andrew) Placek, Audrey (Reed) O'Neal, Julia Fargen, Quinn Fargen, Olivia (Thomas) Bartholow, Colin Golden, Max Golden, Ben Golden, Halley Golden, and Ryan Golden; and one great-granddaughter, Vivian Placek.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Betty Hanson.
