Obituary

Howard E. Algood, age 77, of Volga, died Thursday, January 26, 2006, at the United Retirement Center in Brookings, South Dakota. Visitations will be from 2-4 P.M. Sunday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga, with a memorial service following at 4:00 P.M. at the chapel. A second service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday at the New Life Fellowship Church in Holland, Iowa, with interment in the Holland Cemetery. Howard E. Algood was born May 9, 1928, in Holland, Iowa, to Albert and Bertha (Siefken) Algood. He attended Grundy School and completed the 8th grade. He was a truck driver, manager at a Cargill plant, mayor of Holland, Iowa (1960-1962), mechanic for an implement and car dealer, and he farmed. Howard was married to Katherine (Garrett) Algood from May 9, 1949-1977. They had ten children together and resided in the Arlington and Willow Lake, South Dakota, area. He moved to Volga in 1977. Howard was married to Naomi (Dunlap) Algood from 1982 until 1997. Howard was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Volga. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, loved animals, and liked to reminisce over old stories. Survivors include five sons: Edward Algood and his wife, Virginia, of Tacoma, Washington, James Algood and his wife, Michele, of Watertown, South Dakota, Joe Algood of Tacoma, Washington, Dale Algood and his wife, Karen, of Volga, and Robert Algood and his wife, Brenda, of Brookings; five daughters: Sharon Algood of Worthington, Minnesota, Ruth Boswell and her husband, Mike, of Goodwin, South Dakota, Jane Algood of Volga, Jana Krogmann and her husband, Arlyn, of Brookings, and Wanda Brower of Volga; three step-sons: Howard Clark of Brookings, Robert Clark and his wife, Theresa, of Volga, and John Clark and his wife, Suzanne of Kalispell, Montana; 14 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pauline McFarland, of Waterloo, Iowa. His parents and his second wife, Naomi Algood, preceded him in death.
