Hilda Starkenburg, age 82, of Volga, died Friday, September 18, 2009, at the Brookings Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, September 21, 2009, at the Volga Christian Reformed Church, with interment in Trinity Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5:30 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga.
Hilda (Meyer) Starkenburg was born December 16, 1926, on the family farm near Volga, South Dakota, to Marinus and Fannie (Groen) Meyer. She attended country school. On February 25, 1947, she married Donald Starkenburg at Volga. The couple lived on a farm north of Volga, and Hilda worked for a time at Land O Lakes at Volga. Donald died December 27, 2007.
Hilda was a member of the Volga Christian Reformed Church. Her family was of greatest importance to Hilda, and she enjoyed spending time with them. She also enjoyed crocheting.
Survivors include a daughter, Delores (Ronald) Bothe, of Volga; and two brothers: Ben (Gert) Meyer of Volga, and Ed (Wilma) Meyer of Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Henry and George Meyer; and a sister, Dena Mans.
