Hilda Lengkeek, age 96, of Volga, died Wednesday, October 31, 2007, at Brookview Manor in Brookings. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, November 5, 2007, at the Volga Christian Reformed Church, with interment in Trinity Cemetery at Volga. Visitations will be from 4-7 P.M. Sunday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga. Memorials will be given to Gary and Nancy Lengkeek, c/o Adventures in Missions. Hilda Lengkeek was born June 6, 1911, on the family farm near Volga, South Dakota, to Kryn and Gertie (Meyer)Lengkeek. She attended District No. 76 country school. Hilda and Gertrude cooked at the Volga Hospital and also at Sioux Valley School for many years. She retired in 1976. She lived on the farm until 1981 when she and her sisters Johanna and Gertrude moved into Volga, where she resided until moving to Brookview Manor in November 2006. Hilda was a member of the Volga Christian Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday School. She enjoyed growing plants and flowers, and baking. Survivors include two sisters, Johanna Lengkeek of Volga and Magdalena Int Veld of Estelline, South Dakota; a sister-in-law, Irene Lengkeek, of Volga; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry, Gerrit, and Peter, a sister, Gertrude; and an infant sister, Magdalena.
