August 31, 1989 – April 11, 2024
Hiedi Slayton, 34, of Brookings and Sioux Falls, SD passed away on April 11, 2024, at the Avera McKennan Hospital following a grand mal seizure. Although Hiedi left her family too soon, she was able to grant new life to others through the gift of organ donation. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Brookings First Assembly of God at 6:00 p.m. followed by a time of fellowship and a meal at the church. Visitation will be held the two hours preceding the service, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m., also at the church. Eidsness Funeral Home is assisting Ms. Slayton's family with arrangements.
Hiedi Lynn Slayton was born on August 31, 1989, to Randy DeMers and Lynn Slayton in Rice Lake, WI. She graduated from Rice Lake High School in 2007, and soon moved to Marshfield, WI. In 2018, Hiedi moved to Brookings, SD to be near family, and during her time in Brookings she enjoyed working at Buffalo Wild Wings and Whiskey Creek. At the time of her passing, Hiedi was residing in Sioux Falls, SD.
In her free time, Hiedi enjoyed playing video games, whether it be on her consoles or her phone. She also greatly enjoyed video chatting with her family and friends on her phone. Hiedi loved animals, particularly dolphins, dogs, and cats, and especially her dog, Brownie. She loved socializing and shopping with her family and friends. Along with many of her family members, Hiedi was a Green Bay Packers fan and could often be found watching the games during the fall. She also liked spending time fishing.
Hiedi was an active Special Olympian. She completed in swimming, basketball, bowling, bocce ball, and softball. During her time with Special Olympics she was able to attain many awards in her chosen activities.
Hiedi is survived by her daughter, Tiffany Slayton; parents, Randy (Val) DeMers and Lynn Slayton; siblings: Kevin Pribble, Zadrein DeMers and David DeMers; grandfather Kim Bergman; aunts and uncles: Karen Mosof, Dwayne Sherman, Billy Lindsey, Johnny Sherman, Kristina Greenwood, Stephanie (Pat) Herdahl, Steven Kiehn, and Sheila (Bruce) Scotting; cousins: Sydney, Keaton, Taylor, Tyra, Clay, Dawson, Danni, and Ashtin (Brett); Kayla, Bailey, and Sierra; and second cousins: Castor, Bradly, Zada, Benjamin, and Effie.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Lisa Marie Slayton; grandfather Larry DeMers; grandmother Shirley Bergman; grandfather Sherman Lindsley Sr.; aunt Sarah Lindsley; her step-grandfather Delyle "Pete" Kiehn, step-grandmother, Frances Kiehn, and her step-uncle, Eric Kiehn.
