Obituary

Henry O. Meyer, age 90, of Volga, went to be with his Lord Monday, October 26, 2009, at the United Retirement Center, Brookings, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 31, 2009, at the Volga Christian Reformed Church, with interment in Trinity Cemetery. Visitations will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga.

Henry Otto Meyer was born November 9, 1918, on the family farm near Volga, South Dakota, to Otto and Susie (Piebenga) Meyer. He attended Country School #76. On April 5, 1940, He married Kathryn Schonewill at Volga. Henry and Kathryn purchased a farm north of Volga and the couple lived on the farm for the next 69 1/2 years of married life.

Henry was a member of the Volga Christian Reformed Church and served on the Consistory. He loved farming, woodcarving, woodworking and having the grandchildren come to the farm where he made them toys.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn of Volga; three daughters: Karen (Charles) Houtman, of Canby, Minnesota, Shirleen Brown of Highland, Indiana, and Vonda (John) Lohan of Arlington, South Dakota; and two sons: Roger (Wanda Hai) Meyer of Volga, and James (Paula) Meyer of Brookings; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters Helen VanDuyn of Colton, South Dakota, and Adeline (Wesley) Kallemyn of Pluto, Missouri; and one brother, Alvin (Ruth) Meyer of Sabetha, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, George, Pete, and Bill ; two sisters, Willy and Gladys; and a son-in-law, Larry Brown.
