Obituary

Henrietta Gohring, 94, of Brookings, passed away on February 16, 2020, at Edgewood Vista Assisted Living in Brookings.  Memorial services will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2020, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, beginning at 10:30 A.M.  Burial will take place at a future date at St. Lawrence Cemetery in St. Lawrence, South Dakota.

Henrietta Gohring was born on March 15, 1925, in St. Lawrence, South Dakota, the daughter of Henry and Addie (Welch) Gohring.  She attended elementary school in Hand County, South Dakota, and was a graduate of Miller High School in 1943.  After receiving her Teacher's Certificate, she taught for two years in rural schools near Miller, South Dakota.  She later continued her education at South Dakota State University, and received a BS degree in teacher's home economics.  She then taught school for several years in Alpena, South Dakota.  Henrietta continued her education at the University of Madison, Wisconsin, and received her Master's degree in education and home economics.  Later, she became the Grant County Home Economist near Milbank, South Dakota.  Later in life she moved to Brookings, South Dakota, and was employed as the 4-H Agent at the state level.  She continued at that position until her retirement.  Henrietta cherished her time spent with the 4-H program, particularly her involvement with local 4-H groups.

Henrietta was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Brookings, and greatly enjoyed worshipping alongside her church family.  She also enjoyed hunting her in younger years, and was an avid traveler, exploring various locations throughout the United States and abroad.

Henrietta is survived by her close friends David and LaVonne Kurtz, of Brookings, South Dakota and their family, as well as many friends throughout the community.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Addie Gohring.
