Helen Vierhuf, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at the White Healthcare Center in White, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 28, 2008, at Zion Lutheran Church in White, with interment at Fairview Cemetery at White. Visitations will be held prior to the service at the church on Saturday, beginning at 10:00 A.M. Helen was born July 29, 1922, in Alton Township, Brookings County, to Frank and Pauline (Laabs) Kalousek. She received her education in the White school system. Following her schooling she cared for her ill mother. Helen married Arnold Vierhuf, the love of her life, on December 4, 1946, in Hendricks, Minnesota. They made their home in White. They took in Helens mother and continued to care for her until the time of her passing. Helen was a waitress at the Murphy Caf in White until taking a job with the SDSU Food Service. She continued to work there until her retirement in 1982. Helen entered the White Healthcare Center in November 1997. She lived there until the time of her passing. She thought the world of the people that worked there. She loved to joke around with the staff and enjoyed several good laughs with them each day. She always had a smile to share. Helen enjoyed each day that God gave her. She especially enjoyed visits with family and friends. She loved a good game of Bingo. . . especially when she won! She enjoyed walks in the sun, root beer floats, and visiting over a cup of coffee. Helen is survived by her two children: Barbara (Martin) Bosch of Brookings, South Dakota, and Richard (Deb) Vierhuf of White, South Dakota; a granddaughter, Jody (Carl) Unverrich, of Tacoma, Washington; a brother Alver Kalousek, of Elkton, South Dakota; and several nieces and nephews. She thought of Sherilyn Bosch as another daughter. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Arnold, on April 14, 1968; her parents; and a sister, Anna Suurmeyer.
