Obituary

Helen Seas, age 75, of Brookings, died Tuesday, September 21, 2004, at the Brookings Hospital, embraced by her loving family after a long and courageous battle with emphysema. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 25, 2004, at First Lutheran Church, Brookings, South Dakota. Visitations will be 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Helen Corrine (Lee) Seas was born January 29, 1929, at Grafton, North Dakota, to Erick and Amelia (Newton) Lee. Born late in life to Norwegian immigrants, Helen was an only child growing up on her family farm and attending country schools. She graduated from Grafton High School and attended Jamestown College and South Dakota State College. It was while attending South Dakota State College that she met and fell in love with Lyle James Seas. They were married on September 3, 1950, in Grafton, North Dakota. They made their home in Brookings and were active in the community. Attending First Lutheran Church and being a member in the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries as well as the church quilt club. Always proud of her Norwegian heritage, she would never fail to tell you that she was one hundred percent Norwegian. An avid seamstress, she loved to sew, quilt, and make things for her entire family. She was known for her cookbook collecting, having thousands. Later in her life, she did daycare out of her home, all the while taking care of her husband who had been hurt in a work related accident. Lyle died January 11, 1998. As her health deteriorated, she often enjoyed her trips to the Twin Cities, Green Bay, Wisconsin, and the family cabin on Lake Kampeska. Her time with family was precious and what kept her going. Grateful for having shared her life are her three children and their families: Lynda of Brookings, Richard and his wife, Karen and their children: Jenifer, David, and Laura of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and James and his children, Shawn and Tarius of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. The family requests that in addition to any memorials please either bring or send your favorite recipe, which will be put together in honor of Helen
