Helen Vina (Quam) Hiaring was born November 12, 1911, to Jacob and Julia (Felberg) Quam in Brookings County, South Dakota. She died Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at Brookview Manor, in Brookings, South Dakota. Helen grew up in the Brookings County area, and attended country school. On June 28, 1933 she married Lawrence Hiaring. The couple farmed in Lake County after marriage. Lawrence died October 26, 1975. Helen was a member of Sinai Lutheran Church in Sinai where she was active in the Mission Club, A.L.C.W., and was a Sunday school teacher for several years. Family and church were the most important things in her life. Survivors include three children: Lois (Marvin) Hope of Sinai, South Dakota, Robert (Barbara) Hiaring of Billings, Montana, and Ruth (Mark) Wreisner of Cold Spring, Minnesota; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Alice Quam of Brookings. She was preceded in death by her husband and daughter, Janice Hiaring. Funeral Services: 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 8, 2003 at Sinai Lutheran Church in Sinai. Visitations: 4-7 P.M. Friday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings.
