Helen Hemmingsen, age 94, of Brookings, SD, died on June 14, 2013 at home. No services are planned at this time. Eidsness Funeral Home is handling Helen's arrangements. Helen was born on November 13, 1918 to Anton and Nelsina (Petersen) Hemmingsen in Coleman, SD. She attended SDSU and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Helen worked in Denver Colorado as a Medical Technician. She then returned to South Dakota and lived in Brookings until the time of her death. Helen was active in the national Alliance for Mental Illness. She is survived by her nephews, Paul and David Rieck and her nieces, Marge Kondak, Donna Christensen and Kristine Chapman. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Lillie Rieck and Mildred Matters and one brother, Harry Hemmingsen. Memorials are preferred to the National Association of Mental Health.
