Helen M. Halstead, age 103, died Monday, November 21, 2005, at the United Retirement Center in Brookings. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, November 28, 2005, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, with interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitations will be from 3-5 P.M. Sunday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings and preceding services on Monday. Helen Mae (McComb) Halstead was born January 2, 1902, at Paullina, Iowa, to John and Sarah (Countermine) McComb. She moved to South Dakota with her family at a young age. On September 20, 1920, she married Harold Emery Halstead at Brookings. They farmed for five years and then lived in Brookings until moving to Rock Rapids, Iowa; Pierre; and Sioux Falls. Harold died October 9, 1971. Helen moved to Brookings in June 1972. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Wednesday Club. Survivors include three daughters: Phyllis (Richard) King of Brookings, South Dakota, Kathleen MacRunnels of Phoenix, Arizona, and Carol (Milo) Seubert of Sparta, Wisconsin; a son, Marvin (Joyce) Halstead, of Rock Island, Illinois; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Florence Jenks, of Elkhart, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four children, two brothers, two sisters, and a granddaughter.
