Obituary

Helen Graslie, age 78, of Brookings and formerly of White, died Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at the Brookings Hospital. Visitations will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, May 18, 2015, at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in White. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2015, also at the church. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery with lunch following at McKnight Community Center. Eidsness Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in White. Helen Hinrichsen was born September 3, 1936, to John and Gladys Dearborn Hinrichsen at Pipestone, MN. Helen attended rural school near Ward, SD for a year and a half, finishing at Lake Hendricks Township District #75. She graduated from Hendricks High School. After graduation, Helen was employed with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Sioux Falls. On August 26, 1956, Helen married Art Graslie at White. They lived in Sioux Falls until 1965, at which time they moved to White. Helen worked for the White Care Center, the Staurolite Inn, operated an in-home daycare center, owner/operator of a local café, and cooked for the members of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. She will be remembered for her generosity, willingness to serve, and always being a gracious host. Helen was a member of the Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, White Community Club, White Area Historical Society, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include; four daughters: Sheryl (Randy) Brown of White, Nancy Thompson of Brookings, Janice Collett of White, and Joan Kreitlow (special friend, Shannon Crooks) of White; one son, Brian (Kris) Graslie of Brookings; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marie Jensen of Brookings, Phyllis Coyle of Brookings, and Karen (Gene) Kaiser of Dempster; one brother, Roy (Sharon) Hinrichsen of Wabash, IN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Art; parents; and sister, Betty Skogen.
