Hazelle M. Little, age 98, of Brookings, died Thursday, December 3, 2015, at the United Living Community in Brookings. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 11, 2015, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, with interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitations will precede the funeral service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Memorials may be directed to the Hoffman-Townsend American Legion Auxiliary.
Hazelle Mae (Stransky) Little was born May 30, 1917, at Brookings to Jacob and Hattie (Payne) Stransky. She attended country schools and graduated from Brookings High School in 1934. She continued her education at Eastern State Normal in Madison and received her teacher's certificate in 1935. She then taught rural school in Brookings County for six years. She married George R. Little on July 13, 1941, in White, South Dakota. From 1941 until 1945 they lived in Los Angeles. From 1959 until 1971, she was employed as a secretary in the SDSUDairy Science Department. George died October 21, 2002.
Hazelle was a 4-H leader for several years and a past member of the 49ers Extension Club as well as a member of First Baptist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, 8 & 40. She enjoyed traveling, reading, crocheting, and quilting.
Survivors include her son, Dennis (Mary Jo) Little, of Cincinnati, Ohio; daughter, Linda (Charles) Matson, of Sioux Falls; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a granddaughter, Leigh Michelle; and a brother, Harold.
