Cassell
October 13, 1937 – March 5, 2025
Harry B. Cassell, 87, passed away on March 5, 2025 at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center. Honoring Harry's final wishes, the family will hold a private service with Harry's remains being laid to rest at Fairmount Cemetery in Denver, Colorado on April 8.
Born October 13, 1937, in Denver, Colorado, Harry was the eighth child of Cass and Mary G. (Adams) Cassell. Although raised in Denver, Harry greatly enjoyed spending time with his sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Burt Miller, on their farm. After graduating from Cherry Creek High School, Harry followed in older brother Elbert's footsteps and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1960. Being stationed in California allowed him to spend time with Elb's family. He was honorably discharged in 1964.
Returning to Colorado, Harry met and married Patricia Mullaney September 17, 1965. Living near Elizabeth, Colorado, Harry worked as a mechanic for the local John Deere dealer. Three daughters were born to this union prior to the family moving to Madison, South Dakota in December of 1971 where they started dairy farming. In November of 1974, the family moved their dairy operation to Volga, South Dakota. The couple eventually divorced, and Harry moved to Sioux Falls.
Harry began his truck driving career with Speedway and went on to work for Pam Oil. However, he took great pride as a mail delivery driver for the US Postal Service and thoroughly enjoyed the friends he made at the various transfer offices. He married Orriette Green August 20, 1993, and the couple resided in Sioux Falls until Harry's health declined in March of 2024 and he became a resident in Estelline. Orriette passed away in September of 2024.
Spending time with family and extended family brought Harry great joy as did gardening and visiting with people. He had a notable smile that was appreciated and commented on by many. His family's welfare was of utmost importance to Harry, and he was extremely proud of their many talents and abilities.
