Guy Douglas Archer Jr., age 76 of Brookings, died Wednesday, August 24, 2016, in Rochester, MN. Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at First United Methodist Church in Brookings with burial at Greenwood Cemetery. Eidsness Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Guy was born November 11, 1939, in Gettysburg, SD, to Guy Sr. and Maude (Millar) Archer.   He graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1957, and attended SDSU for two years before returning to the farm to help his dad.   Guy married Sharyn Groseclose on March 4, 1967. They had two daughters, Nicole Rae on December 11, 1967, and Kenlyn Kay on October 17, 1971.

In 1972, Guy and Sharyn sold the family farm and moved to Brookings. He continued his education at SDSU and graduated in 1974. On January 20, 1976, Guy and Sharyn welcomed their first son, Dustin Douglas. The couple moved to Avon, SD, in 1976, and returned to Brookings in 1980. On July 11, 1981, their second son, Trent Richard, was born. Guy taught at the Flandreau Indian School from 1982, until his retirement in 2005. He then went to work part-time for HyVee starting in 2006, until ill health caused him to retire earlier this year.

Guy was an active member of First United Methodist Church and Methodist Men. He enjoyed hunting, camping, restoring tractors, and attending tractor shows. Guy rarely missed a sporting event for his grandchildren. He truly enjoyed watching the Brookings Bobcats, with wrestling being one of his favorites.

Survivors include his wife, Sharyn; children, Nicole (Ken) Archer of Brandon, SD; Dustin (Jill) Archer, and Trent Archer all of Brookings; five grandchildren, McClane, Evan, Nolan, Maddix, and Briggs; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Deloris; and daughter, Kenlyn.
