Grayce Horton, age 89, of Brookings, died Saturday, July 14, 2012, at the United Living Community in Brookings. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, July 19, 2012, at Lake Campbell Lutheran Church, rural Volga, with interment in the South Lake Campbell Lutheran Cemetery. Visitations will be from 6-8 P.M. Wednesday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Memorials should be directed to the American Lung Association. Grayce Ethel (Timmerman) Horton was born October 6, 1922, at Emmet, Idaho, to Marion and Alfrieda Faith (George) Timmerman. She married Lyle B. Horton on March 11, 1939. They lived in various places, and in 1976 moved to an acreage near Lake Campbell where they lived for 18 years. Lyle died April 5, 2001. Grayce was a member of Lake Campbell Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and involved with the Mary Circle. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, needlework, and writing. She received a certificate of completion from Famous Writers School, and some of her writings were published in Country Woman Magazine and the Brookings Register. Survivors include her five children: Lyla Olauson of Brookings, Faith (Jerry) McCollough of Lake Benton, Minnesota, Gail (Albert) Cortese of Port Angeles, Washington, Shary Baade of Redding, Connecticut, and L. Sean Horton of Ferndale, Washington; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Phyllis (Jack) Colman, of Yuma, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband; two grandchildren; two sisters; a brother; and three infant children.
