Grace M. Hakinson, age 97, passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at her home in Brookings. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 21, 2010, at the Brookings Wesleyan Church, with interment at Fairview Cemetery at White. Visitations will be from 5-7 P.M. Sunday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings.
Grace Mae (Hicks) Hakinson was born April 11, 1913 at White, South Dakota, to Amos and Stina (Preussler) Hicks. She attended country school and White High School until her junior year, after which she remained at home to work. Grace married Anton (Swede) Hakinson on September 6, 1933. They farmed in the White area until 1960 when they moved to Wisconsin. After a time there, she moved to Oregon where she ran and operated a craft store. After moving back to Brookings in 1996 she enjoyed doing crafts in her home until her passing.
Survivors include her children: Mavis Davis (Wally, deceased) of Pierre, Gerald (Donna) Hakinson of White, Terry (Barbara) Hakinson Brookings; 14 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anton (Swede); a daughter, Marge (Clem); a grandson Jamie Smith; three sisters and seven brothers.
