Gordon E. Streeter, age 76, of Volga, died Tuesday, November 16, 2004, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 20, 2004, at First Reformed Church in Volga, with interment in the Oldham Cemetery. Visitations are from 5-8 P.M. Friday, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials. Gordon Edward Streeter was born November 27, 1927, at Wolsey, South Dakota, to William E. and Helen (Schmidt) Streeter. The family moved to the Oldham area in 1934. He graduated from Oldham High School in 1945. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951, serving in combat in Korea in 1951 and 1952. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Claussen, of Erwin, on December 21, 1952. He served with the U.S. occupational forces in 1953 in Germany, returning home in January of 1954. Gordon was employed in many phases of dairying, as a bulk milk hauler, field man for Land O Lakes creamery in Volga, and in Central Surge Supply in Volga for ten years. He drove a school bus for Sioux Valley School for 14 years after retirement. He was a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church in Volga, serving as an elder and custodian. He was a member of Burrows-Young American Legion Post No. 114 for many years, and the 40 & 8 in Brookings. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of Volga; two daughters: Deanna Streeter of Sioux Falls, and Marla (Paul) Bertsch of Lake Preston, South Dakota; a son, Alan (Sharon) Streeter of Scott City, Kansas; three grandchildren: Matt and Patrick Bertsch and Samuel Streeter; and one sister, Dorothy Stevens of Miller, South Dakota. Gordon was an out-going, personable man, who loved meeting and being with people. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed being at the lake, camping, giving rides on his pontoon boat, playing pinochle with friends, and family gatherings. His loved of family was evident in how often he wanted to share in their joys and achievements.
