Gloria Sonnenburg, 88, of Brookings, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.  A memorial service will be held at a future date.

Gloria Louaine Sonnenburg was born on June 17, 1934, in Madison, South Dakota, to Clifford and Anna (Johnson) Hanson.  Throughout her youth during the Great Depression and World War II, Gloria's family moved several times between Rutland, Nunda, and Volga, South Dakota.  Gloria graduated from Volga High School.  On June 22, 1953, Gloria was united in marriage to Dean Sonnenburg in White, South Dakota.

Gloria spent much of her adult life on the Sonnenburg family homestead, a dairy farm in Hidewood Valley near Estelline, in Deuel County.  She was confirmed in the Nunda Lutheran Church, and a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, South Dakota.  Gloria especially enjoyed listening to old country music and Lawrence Welk.

Gloria is survived by her son, Rodney (Linda) Sonnenburg; granddaughter Cari (Craig) Olson; her son Jayden Sonnenburg; and her step-daughter Anna Olson; grandson Jeremy Sonnenburg; and his daughter Andi; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dean; her parents; one brother, Maynard (Ione) Hanson; 3 sisters: Wanda (Orvin) Stoneback, Ione (Vernon) Dahl, and Shirley (Russell) Strande; and one infant sister, Carol Jean.
