Gertrude Louise (Wussow) DeZeeuw was born April 29, 1927, on a farm in Troy Township, near Pipestone, Minnesota, to Karl William Fredrick Sr. and Anna Marie (Bodesohn) Wussow. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Pipestone, and attended school in District No. 68. In 1941 she moved with her family to a farm near Holland, Minnesota. On July 21, 1943, she married Rufus Rudy DeZeeuw at Pipestone. They lived on a farm in Fountain Prairie Township for three years, and in 1947 Rudy and Gertrude moved to a farm four miles northwest of Elkton. They lived on several other farms in the area, and in 1962 bought the farm that they first moved to northwest of Elkton. They farmed until 1997, when they bought a home in Elkton. Rudy died January 9, 2009.

Gertrude was a member of the United Parish of Elkton and served as president of the United Methodist Women for a number of years, as well as other offices in the UMW and UPW. She was a Habitat For Humanity volunteer, delivered senior meals in Elkton, and served on the Elkton Museum board and Betterment Committee. She loved the Lord, her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, embroidering, gardening, canning, and pitching horseshoes with her husband.

Gertrude is lovingly remembered by her seven children: Donald L. (Judi) DeZeeuw of Brookings, South Dakota, Audrey K. (Dave) Pratt of Spring, Texas, Susan L.
