Obituary

Gerald "Jerry" Steineke, 71, of Brookings, passed away on March 26, 2017, at the Brookings Hospital.  Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, beginning at 10:30 A.M. at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, with interment immediately following services at First Lutheran Cemetery in Brookings.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at Eidsness Funeral Home.

Gerald "Jerry" Lee Steineke was born on June 13, 1945 on the family farm by Hartford, SD, son of Melvin "Bud" and Virginia (Spielman) Steineke.    He died on March 26 at the Brookings Hospital at age 71.  Jerry attended Hartford Public Schools through 8th grade.  After school he worked at a gas station until he went into the Army in 1966.  He was stationed in Germany for 2 years during the Vietnam  War.  He worked with Gustufson construction when he returned.  He married Marilyn(Sundermann) Steineke on September 13, 1969 in Hartford, SD.

After they were married they moved from Hartford, SD to Colorado for about 2 years.  Jerry worked as a sanitation engineer while in Colorado.  They moved to Sioux Falls, SD for  a few months, and then moved to Aurora, SD.  Jerry was a construction worker.  They stayed in Aurora, SD for about 6 years and then moved back to Colorado for about 2 years.  They moved to Brookings, SD  where they have resided since.  Jerry worked with Twin City Fan then moved over to Kerry Sprinkler Systems.  Jerry had retired but he continued to work with Kerry Sprinkler Systems as his health would allow.

Jerry enjoyed going fishing any time he could, and working in his yard.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Brookings; three sons:  Donnie DeBoer and his wife, Dana of Hartford, Marty and his wife, Kim, and Heath, all of Brookings; seven grandchildren:  Jarrad, Collin (Kami), Rhea, Carlee,  Marisa, Kenzie, and Jaide; four brothers:  Donald  Steineke and his wife, Shirley, Larry Steineke and his  wife, Penny, all of Hartford, Gary Steineke and his wife, Laura, Richard Steineke and his wife, JoAnne of Sioux Falls.

Jerry was preceded in death by:  one son, Richard; his parents; four sisters:  Donna O'Connell, Sharon Kelley, Shirley Kelley, and Bonnie Grayson; seven brothers-in-law:  Jim O'Donnell, Red Kelley, Jerry Kelley, Richard Grayson, Larry Sundermann, Dale Sundermann and Charlie Sundermann.
