Obituary

Gerald L. Skovlund, age 73, of Bruce, died Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at the Brookings Hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 15, 2016, at Grace Free Lutheran Church in Bruce, with military rites and interment at St. Petri Lutheran Cemetery at Bruce. Visitations will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings.

Gerald Leroy Skovlund was born April 26, 1942, at Brookings, South Dakota, to Oscar and Mabel (Holter) Skovlund. He was baptized at St.Petri Lutheran Church and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church. He attended country school and graduated from Bruce High School in 1960. He was active in sports while in high school. He served in the South Dakota National Guard, worked as a fur and wool buyer, and was employed by the Farmers Elevator and the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department in Watertown. He worked at Twin City Fan and Blower in Brookings for several years, until his retirement.

Gerald was a member of Grace Free Lutheran Church in Bruce, and the Waite-Westrum-Skovlund American Legion Post No. 200 in Bruce. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include a sister, Audrey Ulvestad, of Bruce; a brother, Harold Skovlund, of Brookings; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers: Olaf, Melvin, Ralph, Leon, Adolph, Alden, and Floyd; and four sisters: Evelyn Harpestad, Ellen Krogh, Olga Hartley, and Esther Boettcher; and a special friend, Maxine Tofte.
