Geneva M. Foster, age 77, of Brookings, died Friday, September 9, 2005, at Brookview Manor in Brookings, South Dakota. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 13, 2005, at First Presbyterian Church in Brookings, preceded by graveside services at 11:00 A.M. at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-8 P.M. Monday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be directed to the 4H Foundation or to First Presbyterian Church. Geneva Mae (Sanford) Foster was born April 9, 1928, at Valley Springs, South Dakota, to Roy Walter and Selma Edith (Nelson) Sanford. She attended school at Valley Springs and graduated from Valley Springs High School in 1945. She received a bachelor of science degree in home economics from South Dakota State University in 1949. She taught home economics at Canton prior to her marriage to Robert J. Foster on August 16, 1953, at Valley Springs. The Fosters farmed near Brookings. Geneva was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women. She had been chosen as the Outstanding Senior Presbyterian. She served as a 4H leader, was a charter member of Altrusa, a 50+ year member of Phi Upsilon Omicron, a volunteer at the South Dakota Ag Heritage Museum, and a member of Chapter P of P.E.O. She was involved in the International Farm Youth Exchange program. In 2003 she was named a South Dakota Eminent Homemaker. Her special interests included weaving, flower and vegetable gardening, cooking and baking, and collecting butterflies. Survivors include her husband, Robert J. Foster, of Brookings; four children: Steven J. Foster of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, Ann M. (William) Douglas of Pierre, South Dakota, Neal R. (Julie) Foster of Brookings, and Joel C. (Bonnie) Foster of Brookings; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Dwane; and a sister, Arlene.
