Gary Marvin Mathis, 69, went to his eternal home in heaven on November 2, 2020. Gary passed away at the Avantara Arlington Skilled Nursing Facility and was blessed to have their kind, compassionate care in his final days.  A private family memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2020, at 11:00 AM at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.  The service will be live-streamed at www.mountcalvary1.org .

Gary was born on January 27, 1951 to Marvin and Frances Mathis of Mount Vernon, South Dakota. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School.

Gary married the love of his life, Joann Mathis, on June 7th, 1974. They had 3 children together: Tina (Mike) Tietjen of Volga, SD; Heather Mathis (Dave Jungck) of Cheyenne, WY and Shannon Mathis of White, SD. Gary's grandchildren are Ethan Mathis, Hailey Mathis, Jaxon Straub and Logan Straub.

Family left to mourn his passing include his children and grandchildren, his 2 sisters: Sherry (Dwight) Gerlach of Corsica, SD and Priscilla (Dave) Emmert of Mitchell, SD.

Family eager to greet him in heaven include his father, Marvin Mathis; his mother, Frances Mathis; his sister, Geraldine Mathis, his sister Shirley Rippe, and grand-daughter Grace Marie Tietjen.

Home....This world is not what it was meant to be. All this pain, all this suffering. There's a better place waiting for me in Heaven. So happy that you are finally home Dad!!
