Obituary

Frieda Holter, 87, died Wednesday, December 17, 2003, at the United Retirement Center in Brookings, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 20, 2003, at Grace Lutheran Church in Bruce with Pastor Wayne Hjermstad officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery at Bruce. Visitations will be 5-8 P.M. Friday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Frieda Elizabeth (Walter) Holter was born May 8, 1916, near Altamont, South Dakota, to Hans and Ida (Reihe) Walter. She grew up and attended country school near Altamont. She married John Wieber in 1935; he died in 1939. On March 12, 1945, she married Lewis J. Holter at Altamont. The couple farmed near Bruce and later moved into town. Lewis died February 21, 1973. Frieda worked for eleven years at SDSU. Frieda was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Priscilla Circle of the Womens Missionary Federation. She enjoyed crocheting, and activities at her recent residence at Park Place Assisted Living and the United Retirement Center. Survivors include five children: Dwain (Shirley) Wieber of Brookings, Kay (Roger) Bauman of Bruce, David (Dianne) Holter of Bruce, Lloyd (Becky) Holter of Volga, and Mary Ann (Dale) Williams of Estelline, South Dakota; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; and brothers and sisters: Fritz, Rich, Marie, Erna, Minnie, Elsie, and Lillian.
