Francis Eugene Redman was born April 29, 1934, in Fargo, North Dakota, to Kenneth and Elizabeth Francis McMillan Redman. His artitistic talent was recognized early on, and in 9th grade he was provided with private art lessons by the Director of the Art Department of the University of Georgia, Lamar Dodd. After retiring, he worked as a free-lance artist, painting familiar San Francisco scenes and portraits of people's pets. Francis enjoyed the Art Museums of San Francisco and Europe, taking trips to Paris in the Springtime, bird-watching, and the company of friends. He once said, "The greatest cities in the world are San Francisco and Paris, and I live in one and vacation in the other".
