Francis B. Anderson, age 80, died Saturday, January 31, 2004, at the United Retirement Center in Brookings, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 4, 2004, at First Lutheran Church in Brookings, with interment in Singsaas Lutheran Cemetery, rural Astoria, South Dakota. Visitations will be from 4-7 P.M. Tuesday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Francis Blake Anderson was born October 27, 1923, in Oak Lake Township in Brookings County to Andrew H. and Inga (Goodoien) Anderson. He was baptized and confirmed at Singsaas Lutheran Church. He grew up on the family homestead where he lived with eight brothers and sisters. He attended country school at Oak Lake District No. 63 for eight years. Francis began farming with his father. On December 28, 1945, he married Lethe Gering at Hendricks, Minnesota. They continued to farm in the area until he took over the family homestead. He loved the land and continued to farm and work at Kjellsen Auto and SDSU until moving to Brookings in 1969. He retired from SDSU as a maintenance supervisor in 1988. He was named career service employee of the month. He worked at Wal-Mart as a greeter. He loved to visit with family and friends. Francis was a member of the Oak Lake school board and served on the church council at Singsaas Lutheran Church for many years. Survivors include his wife, Lethe Anderson, of Brookings; three children: Barry (Kathy) Anderson of Granite Falls, Minnesota, Peggy (Tom) Lombard of Brookings, and Andrew Anderson of Brookings; five grandchildren: Michelle (Tyson) Twait of St. Peter, Minnesota, Valerie Anderson of Hutchinson, Minnesota, Matt Anderson of Mankato, Minnesota, Chris (Sara) Lombard, and Nicholas Lombard, both of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; a brother, Clarence (Lavina) Anderson of Brookings; a sister, Viola (Perwin) Knutson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and two sisters-in-law, Beaulah Anderson of Hendricks, Minnesota, and Norene Ludwig of Estelline, South Dakota.. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Justin, Harry, and Alvin; and sisters Ida Hindbjorgen, Cora Mennis, and Evelyn Sandro.
