Frances Frankie Torgrude, age 90, of Volga, died Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at Dakota Sun Assisted Living in Volga, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 26, 2008, at Sinai Lutheran Church in Sinai, South Dakota with interment at West Sinai Lutheran Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-8 P.M. Friday at Sinai Lutheran Church in Sinai. Frances Juliet Torgrude was born October 7, 1917, at rural Sinai, South Dakota, to Andrew and Emma (Dean) Quam. She attended Sinai Public School and Orland Public School. On January 17, 1941, Frankie was united in marriage to Bernhard Kelly Torgrude in Sibley, Iowa. The Torgrudes made their home in Sinai where she and Kelly were involved in the Torgrude Well Drilling business. Kelly died in 1993. Frankie moved to Dakota Sun Assisted Living seven years ago. Frankie was a member of Sinai Lutheran Church in Sinai, Ladies Aide, Garden Club, and Sinai 4-F. She enjoyed gardening, reading, crocheting, traveling, and spending time with grandchildren, family and friends. Survivors include her two children: Lionel (Fran) Torgrude of Volga, South Dakota, Forrest (Linda) Torgrude of Sinai, South Dakota; daughter-in-law, Peg Torgrude of Sinai, South Dakota; seven grandchildren: Shane Torgrude, Lisa (Eric) Fetzer, Ryan (Megan) Torgrude, Brett (Kellee) Torgrude, Joel (Brienne) Torgrude, Greg (Kory) Hall, and Scott Hall; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Eloise Sorenson; and one sister-in-law, Mavis Quam. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kelly Torgrude; one son, Rodney Torgrude; two brothers: Arthur and Lloyd Quam; and one sister Bernice Wosje.
