Frances Melcher, age 95, of Brookings, died Friday, July 15, 2005, at the Brookings Hospital in Brookings, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at Eidsness Funeral Home, with interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-8 P.M. Monday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Frances Fern (Felton) Melcher was born August 30, 1909, on the family farm near Bushnell, South Dakota, to John and Lillie (Soden) Felton. She grew up and attended school at Bushnell. On September 1, 1928, she married Gus Melcher at Bushnell. They lived in Bushnell until 1958, when they moved to Brookings. Frances was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Gus died February 17, 1980. Survivors include her son, John (Margaret) Melcher of Rapid City, South Dakota; three grandchildren: Cindy (Tom) Lehner of Andover, Minnesota, Randy (Roxy) Melcher of Ft. Collins, Colorado, and Dan (Dana) Melcher of Chandler, Arizona; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sons: twins Richard and Robert, and Harlan; two sisters: Hazel and Queenie; and her husband.
