Frances Shizuko Nakaya Davis was born on September 28 th , 1931 in Los Angeles, CA to Dr. Fusa Taro Nakaya and Edith Washington Morton (Registered Nurse) and died on June 18 th , 2020 at the Brookings Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on August 7, 2020, at the St. Thomas More Catholic Parish in Brookings. A recording of Fran's Funeral Mass will be uploaded to the Eidsness Funeral Home website by Friday afternoon. Eidsness Funeral Home is assisting Fran's family with arrangements.
Fran met Harris Davis at UCLA's Newman Center while studying Fashion and Design. They married on December 31 st , 1952. Together they farmed and raised eleven children, Cecilia Kavanagh (Dennis) Loretto, MN; Tim Davis, Pavillion, WY; Philip Davis (Diana), Layton, UT; John Davis (Sue), Anchorage, AK; Lee Ann Meyer (Steve), Brookings, SD; Tom Davis (Laura), Elkton, SD; Joe Davis (Tina), Elkton, SD; Charles Davis (Cheryl), Germantown, WI; Frank Davis, White, SD; Patricia Davis, Madison, WI; Dan Davis (Cory), Elkton, SD.
Fran was a terrific cook, gardener and seamstress. She and Harris loved dancing. Fran and Harris joined the Peace Corps (1999) and traveled to Morocco on a two year mission. Fran was an East-Central CASA Volunteer (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and advocated for children in foster care. Fran faithfully served the Catholic Parishes of St. Williams of Aurora, Our Lady of Good Counsel of Elkton and St. Thomas More of Brookings. She contributed as a religious educator, and was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Daughter Court #618 for 27 years.
Fran loved preparing meals and spending time with Family and Friends. She was committed to praying for others and was known for her gentle care.
Fran was preceded in death by her husband Harris (2006), her parents, her 5 siblings, and a great-grandchild. Fran is survived by 11 children, 27 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
