Florence Knutson, age 89, died Saturday, March 7, 2009, at her home in Volga, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at First Lutheran Church in Volga, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitations will be from 4-8 P.M. Tuesday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga.
Florence Eleanor (Amundson) Knutson was born September 27, 1919, at Volga, South Dakota, to Severt and Jenny (Lystad) Amundson. She attended country school and then worked doing child care and housework for area families. On April 18, 1938, she married Albert Knutson at Volga. They farmed near Volga. Albert died November 28, 1980.
Florence was a member of First Lutheran Church. She enjoyed quilting, dancing, playing cards, walking, canning, and keeping her fingers in the dirt growing flowers. She also delivered meals on wheels.
Survivors include her four children: Milton (Janice) Knutson, of Atlantic, Iowa, Marjorie (Daniel) Christensen of Garvin, Minnesota, Douglas (Colleen) Knutson of Volga, and Deborah (Rick) Bortnem of Volga; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a sister, Joyce (Bill) Aldrich, of Phoenix, Arizona; a sister-in-law, Maris (Charles) Breaw, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Arnold and Stanley Amundson, and two sisters, Alice Pederson and Betty Cappuccio.
