Flora G. Jones, age 94, of Brookings, formerly of Sioux Falls, died Tuesday, January 1, 2008, at Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 5, 2008, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Interment will be at a later date at Hills of Rest Cemetery in Sioux Falls. Visitations will be from 5-7 P.M. Friday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Flora Geneva (Hansen) Jones was born July 20, 1913, in Devoe Township of Faulk County, South Dakota, to William and Jessie (Strachan) Hansen. Her mother died in the influenza epidemic of 1918, and she was then the ward of her older sisters and father who raised her. She graduated from Cresbard High School in 1933, and was joined in marriage to Robert S. Jones on September 14, 1936, at Cresbard. She lived in Sioux Falls from 1940 until 1998 when she moved to Greenleaf Assisted Living Center in Brookings. Flora was a housewife most of her life, but did some nurses aid work at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, working in the gift shop of the hospital and she also helped rock babies in the nursery. She was a teachers aid for a short time at Lowell Grade School. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls, and active in Ladies Aid for over 50 years. She loved to play scrabble and cribbage, until she lost her sight to macular degeneration. Survivors include her children: Robert (Janet) Jones of Brookings, South Dakota, Rita (Robert) Keener of Springfield, Virginia, Jean (Larry) Hammargren of Duluth, Minnesota, and Dohn Jones of Rolla, Missouri; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985; her parents; two sisters; and three brothers.
