Everett White, age 90, of Sioux Falls and formerly of Brookings, died on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2014 in the Halladay-Peterson Chapel at Dow Rummel Village in Sioux Falls. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Brookings at a later date. Donations may be made to the McCrory Gardens in Brookings. Everett was born on April 13, 1923 near Rolfe, Iowa to G.E. and Lucile McCray White. He graduated from Rolfe high School and received his BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Agronomy (Soil Morphology and Genesis) from Iowa State University. Everett was in the Agronomy (Plant Science) Department at South Dakota State University from 1954 until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Brookings and a number of scientific societies. Everett authored some 140 articles dealing with soils, geology, range management, forestry, and archaeology. Everett is survived by his sister, Beryl Johnson of Fort Dodge, Iowa and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Doloris in 2005 and an infant son.
