Evelyn May Thompson, age 81, of Volga, died Thursday, June 23, 2016, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Visitations will be 2-5 P.M. Sunday, June 26, 2016, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. A private burial will be in First Lutheran Cemetery at Volga.

Evelyn was born August 11, 1934, to Geneva and JH Jorenby in Volga, SD. She married David W. Thompson on June 10, 1956, at First Lutheran Church in Volga.

Evelyn was a loving mother and wife of 59 plus years. She spent her time baking, having coffee with the "girls", and taking great pride in her five grandchildren. We will remember the pancake breakfasts and ultra- thin sugar cookies that she perfected for those kids. Evelyn was a tremendous hostess, providing Sunday dinners to the relatives that would "just show up".

Since retiring with her husband Dave in 1995, they spent their time traveling, and helping out the kids and grandchildren.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Dave; sister, Eleanor (Hillestad), and her parents.

She is survived by her brother, Wayne Jorenby of Volga; sister, Dorothy Beach of Brookings; brother-in law, Robert Hillestad of Brookings; three sons: Robert of Bruce, SD, Scott and Lanette (Singleton) of Brandon, SD, and Roger of Rapid City; five grandchildren: Joren (Madison, WI), Brittany (Inver Grove Heights, MN) , Kyle ( Mankato, MN) Rebecca (Sioux Falls, SD) and William (Brandon, SD).
