Evelyn Svec, age 96, of White, died Monday, February 9, 2004, at the Hendricks Community Hospital in Hendricks, Minnesota. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 13, 2004, at St. Pauls Catholic Church in White, with interment in Fairview Cemetery. Visitations will be 4-7 P.M. Thursday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in White, with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral chapel. Evelyn Mary (Freed) Svec was born December 15, 1907, at Canby, Minnesota, to Frank and Mary (Kankerlik) Freed. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. Peters Catholic Church in Canby. She attended school in Canby, and lived in Minneapolis with her aunt for a time. On April 17, 1943, she married Shirley Red Svec in Canby. They lived at and operated Hamms Four Corners Store and then moved to Brandt, and later to Clear Lake where they operated a bowling alley. They later moved to White. In 1960, they adopted their son, John. Shirley died October 19, 1995. Evelyn was a CCD teacher for 15 years and served on the hospitality committee at St. Pauls Catholic Church. She served as chaplain for the American Legion Auxiliary for over ten years, and helped with bingo at the White Healthcare Center. She was a member of the Historical Society and a den mother for the Cub Scouts. Survivors include her son, John (Marianne) Svec of Lakewood, Colorado; and two grandchildren, Alicia and Paul. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Bill and Frank; and a sister, Lila.
