Evelyn Algra, 81, died Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at Brookview Manor in Brookings, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday at First Reformed Church in Volga, with interment in Trinity Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-8P.M. Friday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga. Evelyn (Van Hoepen) Algra was born August 27, 1922, at Volga, South Dakota, to William and Hattie (Breeschoten) Van Hoepen. She attended country school near Volga. She worked as a cook at the Volga Hospital prior to her marriage to Alfred J. Algra on May 26, 1950, at Volga. The Algras farmed north of Volga. Alfred died June 7, 1982. Evelyn moved into Volga in 1995 and to Brookings in 2000. Evelyn was a member of First Reformed Church and the Reformed Church Women. She taught Sunday School for several years. She was also a member of the Jolly Bunch Extension Club. She was a seamstress, and enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and knitting. Survivors include her four children: Doug Algra of Bruce, Dar Algra of Madison, South Dakota, Nancy (Dan) Parriott of Brookings, and Beth (Rollyn) Clapp of Volga; five grandchildren: Jennifer (Shawn) Chura, Melissa (Joey) Sheeley, and Nathanael, Nickolas, and Hattie Clapp; a great-granddaughter, Ryann Chura; two sisters: Adriana (Wilbur) Kleinjan of Volga, and Wilma (Ron)Bjerke of Brookings; a brother, Harold (Carol) Van Hoepen, of Volga; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Marion Van Hoepen; and sister, Het Rausch.
