Eunice H. McCuen, age 91, of White, died Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Memorial services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at the United Methodist Church in White, with interment of cremated remains in Fairview Cemetery at White. Eunice Helen (Potter) McCuen was born November 19, 1921, at White, South Dakota, to Ollie S. and Mattie A. (Tyler) Potter. She attended her first eight years of school in Sherman District 106, and graduated from White High School in 1939. On June 28, 1940, she married Lawrence McCuen at Lake Benton, Minnesota. Eunice lived her entire married life in Afton Township. She worked at the White Healthcare Center as a nurse's aid for three years. After working at the Post Office in White and Aurora for 30 years, she retired as Postmaster from Aurora in January 1985. Eunice was a member of the National Association of Postmasters of the U.S. She was active in many local organizations, including White Eastern Star Chapter No. 16 for 63 years, of which she served as Worthy Matron and as Secretary for many years. She was treasurer of Afton No. 11 school board, and a member of the Afton Extension Club, card club, and the White Community Club. She enjoyed many hobbies and interests, especially crafts and china-making. She also dealt with antiques. Survivors include her son, Dale, of White; a granddaughter, Gina McCuen (Craig Baker) of Stacy, Minnesota; two great-grandsons, Ariel and Rory Alt; and several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband on December 22, 1994; an infant brother; and three sisters, Anita Gibbs, Erma McBride, and Mavis Barnard.
