Emma Nemitz, age 94, of Brookings, died Saturday, January 19, 2008, at Brookview Manor in Brookings. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 22, 2008, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Brookings, with interment in First Lutheran Cemetery at Volga. Visitations will be from 5-7 P.M. Monday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Emma (Weikum) Nemitz was born March 6, 1913, at Virgil, South Dakota, to William and Katherina (Heckenliable) Weikum. She attended country school near Virgil. On December 22, 1935, she married Herbert C. Nemitz at Huron, South Dakota. Emma worked as a seamstress for Eilers Furs in Huron and as a waitress at Cub Lunch. They moved to Brookings in 1955, and Emma worked at the Gambles Store, Montgomery-Wards, and Coast to Coast. Herbert died October 4, 1990. Emma was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Lutheran Womens Missionary League, and Brookings Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, playing cards, and being with her family. Survivors include two sons: Douglas (Judy) Nemitz of Brookings, and Robert (Karen) Nemitz of Powell, Wyoming; six grandchildren: Terry (Amy) Nemitz, Kris (Jerry) Christensen, Tony (Julie) Nemitz, Tracy (David) Ibarra, Chase Nemitz, and Lexie Nemitz; eleven great-grandchildren; three sisters: Elsie Flaherty of Austin, Minnesota, Christina Kelch of Austin, Minnesota, and Marie Roberts of Medford, Oregon; and a special friend, Donna DeVoss. She was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers, and two sisters.
