ElRoy was born on August 19, 1920 to Edwin and Ruth (Erickson) Moe near Astoria, SD. ElRoy worked with his parents on the family farm while he attended country school near Astoria. After completing his education, ElRoy worked for a local farmer where he met his beautiful young bride, Janet (Hulsebus). On October 13, 1945, he married Janet and spent his life loving her until his death parted them. ElRoy and Janet made their home on a farm near Astoria and with love and faith in the Lord, raised their two children. In 1964, ElRoy and his family moved to Brookings and he began his work in the Ag Department at South Dakota State University. After four years at SDSU, ElRoy began working at Beckmans John Deere. He enjoyed doing baler repair and was known for fixing every broken square baler in the county. ElRoy took pride in bringing home trophies from his many horseshoe tournaments. After more than twenty years, ElRoy retired from Beckmans and continued his passion for turning lathe, which is a Norwegian tradition, passed down by his father. ElRoy came from a very musical family and they enjoyed playing beautiful music together. Over the last three years, the White Healthcare Center took special care of ElRoy. He was visited by many coffee buddies, friends, family and special friends, Pastor Dennis and Barb Erickson. ElRoy looked forward to playing bingo each Thursday with his loving wife, Janet and the residents of the Healthcare Center. ElRoy lived his life with integrity and a strong faith in God that he was always willing to share with others. ElRoy attributed his wife and the Lord for such a wonderful and fulfilling life. If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it is one of many thoughts that ElRoy cherished. ElRoy allowed the Lords word to lead him through his life and his death.
