Obituary

Elmer K. Christensen, age 94, died Friday, June 20, 2008, at his residence in Brookings, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at Grace Lutheran Church in Nunda with interment in Prairie Queen Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-8 P.M. Monday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Elmer Krogh Christensen was born January 17, 1914, at Erwin, South Dakota, to Christ and Amelia (Krogh) Christensen. He attended country school near Erwin. He moved with his family to the Nunda area in 1937, lived at Nampa, Idaho, for eight years, and then back to the Nunda area. On July 7, 1946, he married Melba Albertson at the Prairie Queen Church at Nunda. They farmed for many years near Nunda, and moved into Brookings in 1983. Melba died March 14, 2005. Elmer was a lifelong member of the Lutheran church, at West Bethany Lutheran at Erwin, and Prairie Queen and Grace Lutheran at Nunda. He served on many boards in the community, including church, credit union, oil company, rural telephone, and township. He enjoyed repairing machinery, doing stained glass work , gardening, and reading. He was a member of Golden K Kiwanis Club. Survivors include his three sons: Ray (Alice) Christensen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Lowell (Sandy) Christensen of Waubay, South Dakota, and Curt (Deb) Christensen of Stillwater, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters: Inga Nelson of Lake Preston, South Dakota, and Amy Isaak of Soldotna, Alaska; and devoted friends, Ted and Mary Lou Eggebraaten, of Brookings. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Erling; and his wife.
