Ellen K. Peterson, age 54, of White, died Saturday, February 21, 2004, at the White Healthcare Center in White, South Dakota. Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 24, 2004, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in White, with Rev. Terry Martin officiating. Memorials may be directed to Zion Ev. Lutheran Church or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Ellen Kay Peterson was born September 15, 1949, at Brookings, South Dakota, to Leonard and Verna (Thoelke) Peterson. She graduated from Brookings High School in 1967 and from South Dakota State University in 1972, with a degree in home economics and dietetics. She worked in restaurants in her college years and served an internship at Malcolm Grow Medical Center at Andrews Air Force Base for a year. She transferred to Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, and later to the Air Force Academy in Colorado. She retired from the Air Force at the rank of Captain. Ellen was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1976. She returned to Brookings in 1994 and shortly thereafter entered the White Healthcare Center. She enjoyed dogs and collecting owls. Survivors include her parents, Leonard and Verna Peterson, of Brookings; and two brothers: LuVerne R. Peterson of San Diego, California, and Philip S. (Debra) Peterson of Jackson Heights, Michigan. .
