Elaine C. Hanson, age 85, died Saturday, January 23, 2016, at The Neighborhoods at Brookview in Brookings. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 28, 2016, at First Lutheran Church in Volga, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga and one hour before services on Thursday.
Elaine C. (Dobson) Hanson was born July1, 1930, at Sioux Falls, SD, to Lester and Bessie (Wold) Dobson. She attended school in Marvin, SD, and moved to Milbank, SD, in 1945. She married Raymond Lanser in 1948. They were later divorced. She then married Ray Hanson on April 25, 1964.
They lived in Brookings, SD, from 1964 until 1977 when they moved to Volga. Ray and Elaine owned and operated Elaine's Tap and Cafe for several years retiring in April, 1994. Ray died November 1, 2001.
Elaine was a member of First Lutheran Church in Volga. She enjoyed embroidery, watching Twins baseball, her grandsons play basketball, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was also a great cook.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ray, sister Lorraine and several brother and sister-in-laws. She is survived by four children: Dennis (Nancy) Lanser of Huron, Roxanne (Ron) Smith of Brookings, Mark (Deb) Lanser of Volga, and Shane (Tawnya) Hanson of Volga; three step-children Karen (Howard) Dockter of Big Stone City, SD, Judy Eaton of San Antonio, TX, and Jim (Linda) Lanser of Somerset, WI; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
