Eileen F. Bell of Brookings passed away at the Brookings Hospital on May 31, 2011, having celebrated her 100th birthday last December. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, June 5, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church in Brookings. After Interment at Greenwood Cemetery there will be cake and fellowship back at the church. Eileen was the widow of Virgil A. Bell, long-time Brookings High School principal. She was born to Ethel and Henri Klein in Gettysburg, SD on December 8, 1910. After graduating from Northern State Teachers' College, she taught in a one-room schoolhouse near Ipswich, SD, then continued her career as a Kindergarten and first grade teacher in Milbank, then in Brookings. Eileen was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Order of Eastern Star, a 50 year member of PEO Chapter BA, and a member of the United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for more than 30 years and participated actively in the CARE group. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Colleen and Ray Mendel of Park City, Utah, and many nieces and nephews. Memorial gifts may be made to the Virgil A. and Eileen F.
