Obituary

Edwin C. Kjelden died Saturday, March 22, 2003, at the Hendricks Community Hospital in Hendricks, Minnesota. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday at Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brookings with interment at Fairview Cemetery in White. Visitations will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Edwin Conrad Kjelden was born February 1, 1919, to Ole O. and Bertha (Sandro) Kjelden near Hendricks, Minnesota. He grew up on a farm between White and Hendricks and was baptized and confirmed at Singsaas Lutheran Church near Hendricks, Minnesota. Edwin attended rural grade school and grades 7 and 8 at the White School. On June 10, 1943, he married Betty Hicks in Ivanhoe, Minnesota. They farmed near White until 1967. Edwin was then employed by Hyman Steel Company where he worked dismantling railroads until 1975. He later worked at Sexauer elevator in Brookings until his retirement in 1984. Edwin was a member of Our Savior Evangelical Church in Brookings. He enjoyed woodworking and traveling. Survivors include his wife, Betty, of Brookings; four sons: Larry E. (Pat) Kjelden of Gresham, Oregon, Robert O. Kjelden of Shoreview, Minnesota, Keith E. (Lynn) Kjelden of Edwards, Colorado, and Duane O. Kjelden of Brookings; five grandchildren: Todd Kjelden, Amber Voelker, Aryn Kjelden, Ryan Kjelden, and Amanda Kjelden; four great-grandchildren; two brothers: Orville and Lloyd Kjelden of Brookings; an aunt; three uncles; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers: Philbert, Clifford, and Ronald.
