Edward J. Mulder, age 76, of Volga, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2012, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, January 13, 2012, at First Reformed Church in Volga, with interment in Trinity Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-8 P.M. Thursday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga. Edward Junior Mulder was born September 3, 1935, in Volga, SD, to Ed and Etta (Vallinga) Mulder. He lived on a farm east of Aurora, SD. When he was 14 his family moved to Volga. He attended a country school until the seventh grade and then graduated from Volga Public High School in 1954. He worked in Sioux Falls for a few months and then joined the army in 1955 where he spent 18 months in Germany. He married Marion Van Den Bosch on June 10, 1959. Edward and Marion had 4 children -Debrah Lynne Chinander (husband - Dan), Douglas Edward, deceased, Randal Edward Mulder (wife - Sara) and Bradley Wade Mulder. 3 grandchildren: Haley Marie Chinander, Kiara Sara Mulder, and Braedon Edward Mulder. Edward is also survived by a brother, Arthur, and sister, Henrietta TeKrony. He was preceded in death by his infant son Douglas, his parents, three brothers -Dewey, Raymond and Henry; and three sisters - Tessie VanderWal, Nellie Knutson and Augusta Heemeyer. Edward served as a cub scout master, a volunteer fireman and fire chief. He also served as a deacon of the First Reformed Church. Edward worked as a mechanic for 25 years. He had an auto repair shop in Volga, Ed's Auto Repair, for several years. He finished his career with the Brookings School System and retired in 2000. Edward loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
