Obituary

Edward Basmajian, Jr., died Friday, February 17, 2012, at the White Healthcare Center at White, South Dakota. A memorial service will be held at the White Healthcare Center at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 21, 2012. Interment will be at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia. Edward Basmajian, Jr., was born March 16, 1917, at Atlanta, Georgia, to Edward and Hattie Belle (Lunsford) Basmajian. He studied textile engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and then earned a law degree at the Atlanta Law School. He served in the U.S. Army from April 1942 until January 1946. On May 25, 1943, he married Norma Elizabeth Humphrey in Atlanta. He was employed by the City of Atlanta as an office manager in the municipal court. He retired in 1980. Mr. Basmajian was a member of Heatherwood Baptist Church in Riverdale, Georgia, and he had been a Sunday School teacher and pianist at his previous church, Newton Estates Baptist Church in College Park, Georgia. He was a Shriner at Yaarab Shrine Temple in Atlanta. Survivors include his wife, Norma E. Basmajian, of Brookings, South Dakota; sons: Carlton Edward (Janet) Basmajian of White, South Dakota, and Michael L. (Christina) Basmajian of Peachtree City, Georgia; a grandson, Carlton Wade (Paola) Basmajian of Ames, Iowa; and granddaughters: Isabella Maria Basmajian and Mariana Norma Basmajian of Peachtree City, Georgia. He was preceded in death by a sister, Christina Louise Beeman, of Houston, Texas.
