Edna V. Rossman, age 100, of White, died Monday, May 9, 2011, at the White Healthcare Center. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, May 14, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in White, with interment in Fairview Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-8 P.M. Friday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in White. Memorials will go to a chosen charity of the family. Edna Viola (Benz) Rossman was born on April 7, 1911, at Lawler, Iowa, to John F. and Laura Mae (Zipse) Benz. She moved with her parents to Wessington, South Dakota. At age six the family moved to a farm in Brookings County, where she went to rural schools through the eighth grade. Edna grew up helping on the farm and later helping women in the community with their families while they were having children. On December 15, 1932 she married Raymond William Rossman at St. Williams Catholic Church, Aurora, South Dakota. They farmed in Brookings County until 1971 and later moved to White in 1974. Raymond died in 1981. Edna moved to an apartment in White in 1982. She entered the White Healtcare Center in 2005. She has been a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church while residing in White. Edna belonged to the Catholic Church Altar Society, the White Community Club, Hobby Clubs, and Senior Citizens. Survivors include three sons: Robert (Donna) Rossman of Olympia, Washington, Lyle (Barbara) Rossman of Watertown, South Dakota, and David (Mary) Rossman of Omaha, Nebraska; three daughters: Mavis Miller of El Cajon, California, Patricia (Dennis) Hakeman of Placentia, California, and Shirley (Chuck) Nagle of Kempner, Texas; Many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; a sister, Arlyne Janssen of Elkton, South Dakota; and a brother Wayne Benz of Mitchell, South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; her parents ,John and Laura; two brothers, Victor and Glenn; and a son-in-law, Darrell Miller.
