Earl "Bernie" Stewart, age 71, of Brookings, passed away Monday, March 16, 2020, at home under hospice care. No services will be held for Earl. Eidsness Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Earl Stewart was born on January 6, 1949, in Rapid City, SD, the son of Earl and Virginia (Zolper) Stewart.  They moved to Brookings, SD, in 1951, where he received his education. Bernie was a graduate of Brookings High School in 1967. He continued his education at SDSU. Bernie was united in marriage to Nancy Parmeter on September 16, 1978. He was employed as groundskeeper for the city of Brookings from 1973 until 2005. He took care of the city sport's fields, and especially loved Bob Sheldon Field. In 2005, Bernie went to work as a groundskeeper for SDSU until he retired in 2013.

Bernie attended GracePoint Wesleyan Church. He was an umpire for the SD Amateur Softball Association from 1977 until 2009.

Survivors include his wife Nancy of Brookings, his daughter, Paisley (Jacob) Raml of Volga, SD; grandchildren, Brenna Raml and August Raml; and sister, Barbara (Harlaus) Michaelson of Florida.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
